Detour to Resume for Route 7426 (Oak Street) bridge in South Fork, Cambria County

Hollidaysburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is informing motorists that the detour of Route 7426 (Oak Street) bridge over Norfolk Southern Railroad and the Little Conemaugh River in South Fork Borough, Cambria County, will resume Monday, July 14, 2025.   

The 3.5-mile detour had been lifted temporarily, but now will be placed again and is expected to be in effect until mid-August. Travelers will follow Portage Street, 2nd Street, Route 3043 (Jackson Street) and Route 53 (Railroad Street).

Work taking place involves the removal of existing bridge deck joints, placement of new strip seal dams, and epoxy surface treatments, along with guide rail upgrades and roadway approach improvements.

Cottle’s Asphalt Maintenance, Inc., Everett, Pa., is the contractor for the $788,754.28 bridge rehabilitation project. The anticipated completion date for the project is October 2025.   

PennDOT reminds motorists that as of June 5, 2025, the "Paul Miller's Law" is in effect. This law prohibits the use of hand-held devices while driving, even while stopped temporarily due to traffic, a red light, or other momentary delay. Violation of this law is punishable by way of summary citations issued by any Pennsylvania Law Enforcement officer. We strongly urge motorists to make safe choices, put phones out of reach and don’t text and drive.
