Detour of Route 601 Interchange Ramps at U.S. Route 219 (Flight 93 Memorial Highway) in Somerset Township, Somerset County Through July 3

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is informing motorists of a detour of the Route 601 Interchange Ramps at U.S. Route 219 (Flight 93 Memorial Highway) in Somerset Township, Somerset County, for patching and paving operations, through July 3.

The project contractor, New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co., New Enterprise, Pa., will implement a 14-day detour using Route 601, Route 4055 and Route 281.

The work is part of a 3-year, $25 million project that includes paving, the renovation of multiple bridge-structures, and drainage, guide rail and signage upgrades along five (5) miles of U.S. 219 in Somerset County. The project’s anticipated completion date is November of 2026. The project is weather dependent.

As always, PennDOT stresses extra caution in all work zones. Motorists should drive slowly, eliminate all distractions, and stay alert for direction from advanced signage and flaggers.

Additionally, PennDOT reminds motorists that as of June 5, 2025, the "Paul Miller's Law" is in effect. This law prohibits the use of hand-held devices while driving, even while stopped temporarily due to traffic, a red light, or other momentary delay. Violation of this law is punishable by way of summary citations issued by any Pennsylvania Law Enforcement officer. We strongly urge motorists to make safe choices, put phones out of reach and don’t text and drive.
