Minor Delays Expected on Route 220 from the Maryland Line to Narrow Lane Road in Cumberland Valley Township, Bedford County, Beginning June 26

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is advising motorists to expect minor delays on Route 220 (Bedford Valley Road) from the Maryland border to T-337 (Narrow Lane Road) in Cumberland Valley Township, Bedford County, beginning June 26 for High-Friction Surface Treatment (HFST).

As work continues through the summer on Route 220, motorists can expect single-lane closures under standard daylight flagging operations and delays of up to 15 minutes for HFST application from June 26 to July 1, 2025.

As always, PennDOT stresses extra caution in all work zones. Motorists should drive slowly, eliminate all distractions, and stay alert for direction from advanced signage and flaggers.

The $4,425,000 project includes pavement preservation of approximately 5.4 miles of Route 220 in Bedford County. Work includes milling and resurfacing, drainage improvements, guide rail upgrades, rumble strips, signing and pavement markings, tree trimming and removal, and the rehabilitation of three bridge-structures, on Route 220, Cherry Run Road, and T-337 (Narrow Lane Road). The lead contractor is New Enterprise Stone & Lime, Co., Inc., of New Enterprise, PA.

Additionally, PennDOT reminds motorists that as of June 5, 2025, the "Paul Miller's Law" is in effect. This law prohibits the use of hand-held devices while driving, even while stopped temporarily due to traffic, a red light, or other momentary delay. Violation of this law is punishable by way of summary citations issued by any Pennsylvania Law Enforcement officer. We strongly urge motorists to make safe choices, put phones out of reach and don’t text and drive.
