Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that drivers traveling Route 1001 (River Road) in Clearfield will encounter flaggers in the roadway starting Monday, May 19, as work on the RJ Corman Railroad Bridge Replacement Project continues. The project will enhance safety for motorists by improving the vertical clearance between the roadway and the railroad bridge.
Starting Monday, May 19, the contractor will begin repairs to the railroad bridge’s abutment. Drivers should build extra time into their commutes as PennDOT anticipates delays. Drivers familiar with the area may also wish to consider alternate routes.. PennDOT anticipates repairs to the abutment will take approximately two weeks.
The contractor will close the bridge for approximately two weeks early in August. During those two weeks, drivers will follow a detour using Mount Joy and High Level roads, however this detour will not be accessible to oversized loads. PennDOT will issue an update before the road is closed.
Overall work on this project includes repairs to the abutments, improving the vertical clearance, and other miscellaneous construction. Gregori Construction Inc., of Sarver, PA, is the contractor on this $5.5 million job, which PennDOT expects to be completed by early September. All work is weather dependent.
