Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is announcing overnight improvement work on ramps on the southern end of the Highland Park Bridge in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will occur Monday through Wednesday nights, July 7-9 weather permitting.
Ramp closures will occur from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night to allow crews to conduct milling and paving of the ramps to and from Route 8 (Washington Boulevard) and the Highland Park Bridge. Closures will occur according to the following schedule:
- Monday night, July 7 – Ramp from the Highland Park Bridge to northbound Route 8
- Tuesday night, July 8 – Ramp from the Highland Park Bridge to southbound Route 8
- Wednesday night, July 9 – Route 8 ramps in both direction to the Highland Park Bridge
Ramp traffic will be detoured.

Northbound Route 28 to Route 8
- From northbound Route 28, take the South 8 R.D. Fleming Bridge/Sharpsburg (Exit 5A) off-ramp
- At the stop sign, turn right onto Bridge Street toward the R.D. Fleming Bridge
- Follow Bridge Street onto the 62nd Street Bridge
- Cross the 62nd Street Bridge
- Turn left onto South Route 8 (Butler Street) toward Highland Park
- Butler Street becomes Washington Boulevard
- End detour
Southbound Route 28 to Route 8
- From southbound Route 28, continue past the South 8 Highland Park Bridge/Aspinwall interchange
- Take the ramp to North 8 toward Butler (Exit 5)
- From northbound Route 8 turn left onto Kittanning Street
- Turn left onto Butler Street
- Turn left onto Bridge Street
- Follow Bridge Street onto the 62nd Street Bridge
- Cross the 62nd Street Bridge
- Turn left onto South Route 8 (Butler Street) toward Highland Park
- Butler Street becomes Washington Boulevard
- End detour
Freeport Road to Route 8
- From Freeport Road at the Highland Park Bridge, take Freeport Road southbound through Sharpsburg
- Freeport Road becomes Main Street
- Turn left toward R.D. Fleming Bridge
- Turn left onto Bridge Street
- Follow Bridge Street onto the 62nd Street Bridge
- Cross the 62nd Street Bridge
- Turn left onto South Route 8 (Butler Street) toward Highland Park
- Butler Street becomes Washington Boulevard
- End detour
Route 8 to Southbound Route 28
- Take Route 8 northbound to the 62nd Street Bridge
- Turn right onto the 62nd Street Bridge
- Take the left-hand ramp toward Sharpsburg
- Continue straight at the stop sign
- Turn left onto the ramp to southbound Route 28
- End detour
Route 8 to Northbound Route 28
- Take Route 8 northbound to the 62nd Street Bridge
- Turn right onto the 62nd Street Bridge
- Take the left-hand ramp toward Sharpsburg
- Turn right at the stop sign
- Turn right onto North Main Street
- North Main Street becomes Main Street
- Follow Main Street to the Highland Park Bridge
- Main Street becomes Freeport Road
- Turn left onto the ramp to Route 28
- Take the ramp to North 28 toward Kittanning
- End detour
Route 8 to Sharpsburg and Aspinwall
- Take Route 8 northbound to the 62nd Street Bridge
- Turn right onto the 62nd Street Bridge
- Take the left-hand ramp toward Sharpsburg
- Turn right at the stop sign
- Turn right onto North Main Street
- Follow North Main Street to Sharpsburg or Aspinwall
- End detour
