The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and various safety partners will host a free children’s bicycle rodeo next week in connection with National Bicycle Safety Month.
The event will take place Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Buhl Park in the City of Hermitage.
Activities will begin at 10:00 AM and continue until 12:00 PM. All children should bring a bicycle and helmet and be accompanied by a parent or guardian who can sign a permission slip for participation.
All riders will have the opportunity to navigate an obstacle course that teaches important bike safety skills such as balance, maneuvering around turns, and utilizing proper hand signals.
The Mercer County Sherriff’s Office will conduct helmet inspections for all children, while staff from The Bicycle Store will complete safety checks on all bikes prior to participation.
A limited number of bike helmets will be available for distribution courtesy of the Primary Health Network Charitable Foundation.
Each child who participants in the event will be entered into a random drawing for a new bicycle donated by State Rep. Parke Wentling.
Pre-registration is encouraged and can be done by calling Rep. Wentling’s office at 724-638-4101. The event is open to children enrolled in kindergarten through sixth grade.
