Bridge Project on Blacktown Road in Springfield Township, Mercer County to Start Next Month

A $1.4 million project to repair the bridge that carries Blacktown Road (Route 2006) over Interstate 79 in Springfield Township, Mercer County is scheduled to start June 2, 2025.

The bridge is located on Blacktown Road between the intersection with Route 258 and the intersection with Lee Road.

Work will include repairing the concrete deck and placing a new concrete surface. Additional bridge work will include repairing the concrete beams, piers, and abutments. Work will also include paving on each side of the road and updated guiderail.

Construction is expected to begin June 2, 2025, weather permitting, and is expected to be completed by October 2025.

The project will require a road closure with detour, which will be posted using Route 208 and Route 258. It is expected to be in place for approximately five months.

The existing pre-stressed box beam bridge was built in 1963. It is classified as poor condition. Approximately 550 vehicles a day use the bridge, on average.

The contractor is MEKIS Construction Corporation of Fenelton, PA. The contract cost is $1,424,307.77, which is to be paid with 80 percent federal funds and 20 percent state funds.
