Project Location

Project Overview

County: Philadelphia
State Route: U.S. 1
Local Name: Roosevelt Boulevard
Project Type: Crossover and Intersection Improvements
MPMS#: 114173
Last Updated: July 2025

The primary goal of this project is to implement strategic crossover and intersection improvements to enhance safety and efficiency along the U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Boulevard) corridor in Philadelphia. Five locations along U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Boulevard) have been identified as top priorities for improvements, including the intersections at Revere/Faunce Street, Strahle Street, Winchester Avenue, Michener Street, and Fulmer Street. The proposed changes are based on recommendations from the Roosevelt Boulevard Route for Change report, completed on May 14, 2021, and prepared independently of this project. The scope of work includes crossover enhancements, realigning crosswalks, reconstructing ADA curb ramps, upgrading traffic signals, and improving pedestrian access to public transit by constructing concrete pads for future SEPTA bus shelter upgrades. Construction is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2025 and is expected to conclude in the summer of 2028. The project is fully funded by federal dollars.

Public Outreach

PennDOT hosted an open house and virtual plans display on Wednesday, February 1, 2025, for the U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Boulevard) Crossover Lanes Project in Philadelphia. The open house aimed to introduce the project and gather public input regarding any questions or concerns. It also provided an opportunity for the public to review and comment on the project’s potential impact on Cultural Resources, under the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation’s 36 CFR Part 800 regulations implementing Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.
