PennDOT Providing Central Bayfront Parkway Traffic Plan Update During In-Person Open House and Online Program

The Pennsylvania Department Transportation (PennDOT) is inviting the public to learn about the proposed changes to the Bayfront Parkway and State Street traffic plan by tuning into the next episode of the online lunchtime chat series “Let’s Talk Bayfront” or attending the upcoming open house.

As part of the multi-year project to rebuild three intersections in the central portion of the Bayfront Parkway, many overhead utilities are being relocated underground. PennDOT and the project contractor have faced numerous challenges with completing that work, including changing the location where the utilities run beneath the parkway near State Street. Therefore, an updated plan for managing traffic during the reconstruction of that intersection has been proposed which maintains the goal of completing the entire project in 2027.

The overall scope and design of the project has not changed.

Information on the overall construction plan for the Central Bayfront Parkway Project and construction at Sassafras Street Extension, State Street, and Holland Street, including renderings, videos and an online comment form, is available online at penndot.pa.gov/bayfrontparkwayproject as well as in the project Facebook group.
