Pennsylvania’s Area-Wide Optimization Program (AWOP) has an AWOP Awards Program that annually recognizes top performing water plants on their outstanding efforts towards filter plant optimization and exceptional turbidity performance. This will be the nineteenth consecutive year that Pennsylvania has given out AWOP Awards. The awards ceremony is given each year during the annual Pennsylvania Rural Water Association (PRWA) Conference in State College, PA.
Eligibility for an award requires WebOAS turbidity submittal. Once eligibility is determined, the criteria for receiving an award certificate are meeting Pennsylvania’s Combined Filter Effluent (CFE) Turbidity Optimization Goal, have a Commendable Rating on the most recent Filter Plant Performance Evaluation (FPPE) report, and been in good standing with the department regarding treatment plant violations. These criteria must be met during the award year to receive an award certificate.
The department has also incorporated a prestigious crystal 10 Year AWOP Award given to water plants that have received an AWOP Award for 10 consecutive years. Only seventeen water plants in the state have received this award.
