Overall Composite Proficiency Level Calculator

Overall Composite Proficiency Level Calculator

Calculates the overall composite scale score and proficiency level from the four ACCESS domain scores. Use this only when all four domain scores are available, such as when a score report was separated due to a demographic mismatch and no OACPL was generated. Updated for the 2025-26 scale.

Student Data
Enter the grade and all four domain scale scores to calculate the overall composite.

How the composite is calculated. Reading and Writing each weigh 35 percent. Speaking and Listening each weigh 15 percent. The weighted sum is the composite scale score. The composite proficiency level is then looked up by grade and rounded composite scale score using the WIDA-published values for the 2025-26 scale.

Rounding. The composite scale score is calculated to two decimal places, then rounded to the nearest whole number for the proficiency level lookup. This matches WIDA's score reporting convention.

When to use this tool. Only when all four domain scores are available and an overall composite is not present on the score report. This commonly happens when a student's report is split due to a demographic data mismatch. Do not use this tool to calculate a composite when any domain score is missing.

Note on standard setting. WIDA will complete standard setting on the new scale during summer 2026. After that, the proficiency level cuts in this tool may need to be revised. Confirm you are using the current version before relying on results.
