NORRISTOWN, PA – Today, Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis launched the statewide “Putting More Money Back in Your Pockets” tour in Montgomery County, highlighting more than $450 million in tax relief already delivered to Pennsylvanians — with more on the way in 2026.
Lt. Gov. Davis kicked off the tour at the Senior Adult Activities Center (SAAC) of Montgomery County where a clinic was held to help older Pennsylvanians apply for the expanded Property Tax/Rent Rebate (PTRR) Program. The event also offered personal income tax filing assistance, including for the new Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit (WPTC). This year, the WPTC is expected to deliver nearly $193 million in relief to almost 1 million residents, with eligible filers receiving up to $805 back.
“Last year the Shapiro-Davis Administration delivered more than $450 million in relief to seniors and working families,” said Lt. Gov. Davis. “This year it will be even more when we add more than $193 million in expected relief through the new Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit and an estimated $36 million saved through the new student loan interest deduction. Governor Shapiro and I are targeting relief to the Pennsylvanians who need it most – working families, small businesses and seniors. At this moment when so many Pennsylvanians are struggling to get by, the Shapiro-Davis Administration is putting more money back in your pockets.”
The Shapiro-Davis Administration has cut taxes seven times, providing relief to working families, seniors, and businesses.
- The expanded Property Tax and Rent Rebate program delivered more than $315 million in relief to more than 513,000 homeowners and renters last year. Since PTRR expanded, in total, nearly $250 million more was distributed to Pennsylvania seniors and people with disabilities, and the program reached approximately165,000 more people and the Administration increased the maximum benefit to $1,000 (from $650).
- This year the Shapiro-Davis Administration launched the Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit, modeled on the federal Earned Income Tax Credit. This year, the new tax credit is expected to provide $193 million in tax relief to nearly 1 million Pennsylvanians. Pennsylvanians can receive up to $805 back in a state tax cut.
- The Shapiro-Davis Administration also tripled the state’s Child and Dependent Care Enhancement Tax Credit for nearly 222,000 families in Pennsylvania, delivering $136 million in total savings last tax season. Eligible Pennsylvanians can receive between $600 and $2,100, depending on their income level and number of dependents. This is a substantial increase, as the credit offered between $315 and $630 prior to the Shapiro-Davis Administration’s work to triple the relief available.
- This year for the first time, Pennsylvanians will be able to deduct their student loan interest payments on their state tax returns. Student loan interest is now an allowable deduction, up to $2,500 per taxable year. That will save Pennsylvanians an estimated $36 million starting this year.
- For businesses, the Shapiro-Davis Administration created a new Employer Child Care Contribution Tax Credit, continued to lower the Corporate Net Income Tax (CNIT) rate and increased Net Operating Loss (NOL) deductions.
“Our team at the Department of Revenue sees firsthand how the work the ShapiroDavis Administration has done to cut taxes and help with rising costs is making a real difference for Pennsylvanians across the Commonwealth,” said Pennsylvania Department of Revenue Executive Deputy Secretary Allison Morgan. “We’re proud to put more money back into people’s pockets, whether it’s through the new Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit, the Child and Dependent Care Enhancement Tax Credit, or the expanded Property Tax/Rent Rebate program. Our team is here to help Pennsylvanians access these programs and deliver assistance that can help them put food on the table and pay their bills.”
The Shapiro-Davis Administration established an online calculator for Pennsylvanians to check their eligibility for the Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit. Visit pa.gov/wptc to use the calculator and find other tips for how you can benefit from the new credit.
Eligible seniors, widows and widowers, and Pennsylvanians with disabilities can visit pa.gov/ptrr to find information on how to apply for the expanded Property Tax/Rent Rebate program. During his first year in office, Governor Shapiro signed into law a historic expansion of the PTRR program, which means more Pennsylvanians now qualify — and at the same time — the vast majority who qualified in prior years have seen their rebates increase.
“In Montgomery County, we’re deeply grateful to Governor Shapiro and Lt. Governor Davis for leading with heart and for always putting Pennsylvanians first in every decision they make,” said Jamila Winder, Chair of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners. “Their commitment to delivering this meaningful relief translates into breathing room for so many families: another chance to put food in the fridge, keep the lights on, or make sure there’s a roof over their heads.”
“Here in Pennsylvania, I’m proud to work with the Shapiro-Davis Administration to send a clear message to Pennsylvanians: You deserve to live a safe, secure life you can actually afford,” said Senator Amanda M. Cappelletti. “Unfortunately, federal leaders have made it clear that this is not a shared priority, which is why state level actions are more important than ever. The Property Tax/Rent Rebate program and Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit are two initiatives I have been immensely proud to support, and I am excited for them to provide much-needed relief to thousands of Pennsylvanians this tax season.”
The tour will continue with stops across Pennsylvania, connecting residents with resources and highlighting the Shapiro-Davis Administration’s ongoing efforts to lower costs and grow the economy.
