A project to rehabilitate the bridge that carries Beatty School Run (Route 4021) over Morrison Run in Perry Township, Mercer County is scheduled to begin soon.
The project will include removing the upper portion of the bridge and replacing the deck, beams and barriers. In addition, there will be minor paving near the bridge and guiderail updates.
Construction is expected to begin May 28, 2024, weather permitting, and is expected to be completed in October 2024.
The existing bridge was built it 1958 and is classified as in poor condition. It is currently posted to a weight limit of 32 tons or 40 tons for combination loads. Approximately 300 vehicles use the bridge per day, on average
The project will require a detour during construction, which will be posted using Methodist Road (Route 4019), Route 358, and Fredonia Hadley Road (Route 1001). It is expected to be in place for approximately four months.
The contractor is Gregori Construction Inc., of Sarver, PA. The contract cost is $560,559, which is to be paid with entirely with federal funds.
This project is funded at least in part by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL). In 2024 alone, the BIL is bringing approximately $25 million in additional funding to the northwest region to be allocated by the department and its local Metropolitan and Rural Planning Organization (MPO/RPO) partners. In the northwest region, the planning partners are the Erie Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), the Shenango Valley MPO, and the Northwest Rural Planning Organization (RPO), for projects in Crawford, Erie, Forest, Mercer, Venango and Warren counties.
