Embankment Stabilization Project Continues Next Week on Route 44 in Lycoming County

Montoursville, PA – Motorists are advised that a two-year embankment stabilization project will continue next week on Route 44 between Route 973 and Waterville in Cummings and Watson townships, Lycoming County.

The week of Monday, March 17, 2025, the contractor, Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc., will continue work on the embankment stabilization project located between Ramsey Village and approximately 0.5 mile north of Ramsey Village in Cummings Township. Work includes excavation, construction of a geosynthetic soil wall, removal and installation of guiderail, and miscellaneous construction activities.

Traffic Impacts

  • Temporary barrier has been placed between Ramsey Village and approximately 0.5 mile north of Ramsey village.
  • Temporary signals have been installed in the work zone and will be in full operation mode when work is not being performed.
  • Motorists can expect single lane conditions with a signal and with flagging where work is being performed.
  • A 12-foot width restriction.

Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc., is the prime contractor for this $9.3 million embankment stabilization project administered through a partnership between EQT Production Company and PennDOT. Work includes stabilization of 18 embankment areas using a combination of geosynthetic reinforced soil, soil nailing, and soldier pile and lagging walls.  Additional work includes paving, line painting, and guiderail upgrades. Work is anticipated to be completed by the summer of 2025.
