Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that installation of Sequential Dynamic Lighting Curve Warning Systems will begin on Monday, August 14, along Route 22 eastbound in Derry Township, Mifflin County, approximately 2.5 miles past the East Charles Street exit. These systems will alert motorists of upcoming sharp curves in the road with solar-powered flashing chevron signs, improving visibility and increasing driver safety.
Crews will complete the work during daylight hours under a single-lane closure. Drivers may encounter short delays as roadway flaggers enforce an alternating traffic pattern during these operations. Drivers should remain alert for flaggers and slow-moving or stopped traffic.
Other routes impacted by this project include Interstate 99 northbound in Spring Township, Centre County, near exit 81/Pleasant Gap, and Route 322 westbound in College Township, Centre County, approximately half a mile before the State College/Route 26 exit.
The network connecting the signs communicates to ensure they are flashing in proper order through the curve, which can be helpful to drivers navigating sharp turns in various weather conditions, including fog, rain, and snow, driving at night, and through work zones.
Dixon's Electric & Mechanical of Bellefonte, PA, is the contractor on this $324,000 project. PennDOT expects project completion by mid-October, but all work is weather dependent.
