Recovery Month Events

National Recovery Month, first observed in 1989, is held every September to promote and support evidence-based treatment and recovery practices, the nation’s proud recovery community, and the dedication of service providers and communities who make recovery possible.

This September, communities across the Commonwealth are joining in — celebrating individuals in recovery and offering hope to those who are struggling.

GUIDED FOREST BATHING

Recovery in Nature

September 29, 2026 | 1 p.m.–3 p.m.
Lackawanna State Park Hilltop Picnic Pavilion, Dalton

The Pennsylvania Departments of Drug and Alcohol Programs (DDAP) Secretary Latika Davis-Jones joins Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) and Health (DOH) to host the Armstrong Indiana Clarion Drug & Alcohol Commission, Inc. (AIC) and dozens of Pennsylvanians in recovery from substance use disorder (SUD) for a Recovery in Nature wellness event at Sinnemahoning State Park in Cameron County.

The event, held in conjunction with National Recovery Month, featured a recovery-focused hike and group kayaking within the nearly 2,000-acre state park.

“Together with DCNR, we are shining a light on how nature can nurture recovery. Like nature, those in recovery can grow, thrive, and flourish—just like we witnessed in Cameron County,” said DDAP Secretary Dr. Latika Davis-Jones. “The entire Recovery in Nature initiative sends a clear message that recovery is possible, and our natural resources can be part of that journey.”

Part of our Recovery in Nature initiative, this event is offered by DDAP, the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA), and Northbound & Co., operator of DDAP’s Region 9 Regional Recovery Hub, in recognition of National Recovery Month and Suicide Prevention Month.
