Motorists are urged to allow extra time and slow down when traveling through the work zones this week. Last year, there were 1,293 work zone crashes in Pennsylvania resulting in 14 fatalities.
The Automated Work Zone Speed Enforcement system is expected to be deployed within the work zone this week.
The work is part of the $26.49 million I-79 improvement project. Future improvements include four bridge deck replacements, one bridge preservation, milling and resurfacing, preservation work on seven sign structures, installation of five new ITS signs, guide rail improvements, signage updates, and pavement marking installation.
The prime contractor is the Joseph B. Fay Company.
