Jeffrey Johnson is the Director of Communications for the Department of Revenue (DOR). He oversees a staff of six professionals who manage communications and media relations for the Department of Revenue and the Pennsylvania Lottery.
Prior to stepping into his role at DOR in 2017, Johnson worked as a deputy press secretary in the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General. In that position, he served as a spokesman for the OAG and worked to generate media coverage of the office’s noteworthy criminal prosecutions, civil actions, and public protection efforts.
Before his move into government communications, Johnson worked for nine years as a journalist, writing about sports, municipal government and crime, among other beats. He reported for The York Dispatch (York, Pa.), The Day (New London, Conn.), and PennLive/The Patriot-News (Harrisburg, Pa.).
Johnson is a proud graduate of the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. He earned a bachelor’s degree after pursuing a dual major in magazine journalism and political science.
Johnson believes the best communications professionals are accessible and recognize that journalists have an important role to play in keeping the public informed. In his free time, he enjoys golfing, traveling, and spending time with his partner, Jessica, and Tommy, their energetic Dutch Shepherd.
