Major General Mike Wegscheider was appointed as Deputy Adjutant General–Army on October 1, 2025,
after Commanding the 28th Infantry Division, Pennsylvania Army National Guard.
Major General Wegscheider received his Commission as an Infantry Officer from the Reserve Officer’s
Training Corps at Villanova University in 1990. He is a life-long Infantry Officer and has attended
Infantry Officer Basic Course through the Advanced Strategic Education Program – Command, as well
as U.S. Army Airborne School and the U.S. Army War College.
He has held numerous diverse positions throughout his 39 years of service, including serving as an
enlisted Infantryman in the 9th Infantry Division (Fort Lewis, WA), 1-111th Infantry Battalion (S3,
XO, and Commander), 55th ABCT (XO and DCO), 2 IBCT (DCO), 56th SBCT (Commander) and 28th IN DIV
(Chief of Operations, Deputy Commanding General, and Commander). Major General Wegscheider has
deployed to Kosovo twice, Iraq in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Kuwait in support of
Operation Spartan Shield, and in numerous domestic support operations.
Major General Wegscheider graduated from the U.S. Army War College in 2014, earning a Master Degree
in Strategic Studies. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics from Villanova University
in 1992.
His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal
(third award), Army Commendation Medal (third award), Army Achievement Medal (third award),
Humanitarian Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Kosovo Campaign Medal (with bronze service star),
Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Nato Medal (second Award), Combat Infantry Badge, and
Parachutist Badge.
Major General Wegscheider retired from the Pennsylvania State Police in September of 2022 and
resides in Berks County, Pennsylvania with his wife Dawn.
