Harrisburg, PA - The State Museum of Pennsylvania presents the 10th anniversary edition of its popular “Noon Year’s” celebration. Join museum staff, volunteers and other junior revelers and their families from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Wednesday, December, 30 for an exciting opportunity to “ring in” the New Year.
This year’s event offers a variety of special programs for young visitors and families including ZooAmerica’s “Animals of Winter,” with shows at 10:30 AM and 12:15 PM.
Visitors can check out Season of Light in the Planetarium happening every hour during the event. This traditionally-styled show discusses historical, religious and cultural rituals from around the world and how the motions of the Sun and Earth at the time of winter solstice play a role in our holiday celebrations. Find out why this dark and cold time of year is filled with symbols of light.
The museum’s youngest visitors will enjoy a seasonal StoryTime reading of Bear Snores On, written by Karma Wilson and illustrated by Jane Chapman. Readings are offered at 10:30 AM, 11:30 AM and 12:30 PM.
For visitors looking forward to play time in Curiosity Connection, free, timed tickets will need to be picked up at the Front Desk for 40 minutes of play. Tickets go quickly, so don’t forget to pick them up when you arrive.
Winter snacks will be enjoyed and there is a jingling craft for all the children. Festivities will culminate in Memorial Hall with a countdown to 12:00 PM concluding with the museum’s famous Firefly and balloon drop.
This family-friendly event is included with museum general admission, and no reservations are required. Some programs have limited capacity and are seated on a first come, first served basis.
“Noon Year’s” is sponsored in part by the Pennsylvania Heritage Foundation.
