Harrisburg, PA – The State Museum of Pennsylvania today announced its program schedule for September 2016:
Archaeology at Kipona
Join Archaeology Staff of The State Museum for Kipona on City Island. They will be featuring the dugout canoe and discussing the Archaeology of City Island. The event is free to the general public and runs from September 3 through September 5. This year, the City of Harrisburg will present the event’s centennial celebration, honoring the 100 year history of the Kipona festival.
Archaeology at Fort Hunter
The Section of Archaeology will be conducting their annual excavation at Fort Hunter between September 7 and October 7. The public is welcome to visit and archaeologists will be on site, weekdays between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM.
Gallery Walk
Join us Sunday, September 11 from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM as we partner with other city organizations to celebrate the 28th Annual Gallery Walk. The Museum will have extended hours for this event and general admission is free for the day.
Art of the State and Artist’s Conversations
Join first prize winner for photography Richard Begbie of Allentown and awards juror Barbara McNulty Sunday, September 11 at 1:00 PM, for a casual tour sharing their insights on the Art of the State exhibition. General admission will be free from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM as part of Gallery Walk.
Exhibit Closing: 49th Annual Art of the State
The 49th annual Art of the State exhibition will be closing on Sunday, September 11. Art of the State is recognized as the official, statewide juried competition for Pennsylvania artists. Jurors selected artwork from five categories, Craft, Painting, Photography, Sculpture and Work on Paper. Art of the State is presented by Jump Street and The State Museum of Pennsylvania.
HomeSchool Day at The State Museum
Join State Museum educators and curators for special presentations on HomeSchool Day Wednesday, September 28 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Throughout the day, there will be curatorial talks in the galleries, special planetarium shows, and hands-on activities. The event costs $10 per person, children under 1 year old are free. Members of the Pennsylvania Heritage Foundation and State Museum Affiliate Members are free. Pre-registration is preferred, call 717-772-6997.

Museum hours are Wednesday through Saturday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Sunday 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Admission is $7 for adults (ages 12-64), $6 for senior citizens (ages 65 and up), and $5 for children (ages 1-11).
