Harrisburg, PA – The State Museum of Pennsylvania today announced its program schedule for April 2017:
Exhibit Opening: World War I Posters from the Pennsylvania State Archives Sunday, April 2 2:00 PM
Offering a fascinating glimpse at how valued American symbols and ideals were used to mobilize the country for war in Europe, this display features a sampling of the nearly 500 World War I posters housed within the permanent collections of the Pennsylvania State Archives.
Richard Saylor, an archivist at The Pennsylvania State Archives and curator of the exhibit, will host tours during the opening of the display located on the first floor of the museum near the Pennsylvania At War: The Saga of the USS Pennsylvania exhibit. Refreshments will be served.
Pennsylvania At War: World War I Posters from the Pennsylvania State Archives will be on exhibit through November 12, 2017.
StoryTime: Tools by Taro Miura Friday, April 7 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM
Join us in the Village Square exhibit to read Tools by Taro Miura. This book investigates tools and how they are used. Children will explore the Chair Shop and Tin Shop in Village Square in search of tools that were used in the past. StoryTime is our popular reading series for children aged 3 to 5. Each reading is held in one of our galleries and is followed by a related play activity or exploration of related hands-on artifacts.
Learn at Lunchtime: Planetarium Earth, Moon & Sun April 7 12:15 PM – 12:45 PM
Join us and the coyote in his quest for answers about what he sees in the sky. This character adapted from American Indian oral traditions, will help audiences discover the truth behind common astronomical misconceptions. This delightful, humorous production tackles many of the most baffling concepts associated with the Earth-Moon-Sun system including: eclipses, lunar phases, the seasonal changing of constellations and the physical nature of the Sun and the Moon.
The show will start promptly at 12:15 PM; visitors will not be admitted once the show has started. This presentation is included with general admission to The Museum.

Compass, Calendar, and Clock (6th Grade and up)
As our ancients learned, the sky is not just a thing of beauty... it is our window for the position of our planet. Understanding how our planet is aligned with the distant stars allows anyone to use the sky as a compass, a calendar, and a clock. This traditionally-styled show asks the questions . . . How can you use the Moon tell time? How does the Sun help us find directions? See how mankind has used the sky to tell time, track yearly cycles, and find direction. Come learn how to use the sky yourself! This is a production of the Jenks Planetarium of the Jenks Public School District.

Planetarium shows are $3 per person in addition to general admission. Planetarium admission is free to members of the State Museum Affiliate and the Pennsylvania Heritage Foundation.

Museum hours are Wednesday through Saturday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Sunday 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Admission is $7 for adults (ages 12-64), $6 for senior citizens (ages 65 and up), and $5 for children (ages 1-11).
