Harrisburg, PA - The Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission (PHMC) recently approved 29 Historical & Archival Records Care (HARC) grants totaling nearly $185,000 to help care for Pennsylvania's significant historical records.
The grants range from $1,907.21 for the Woodville Plantation and Neville House Associates in Allegheny County to preserve and make accessible the Cowan-Wrenshall papers, a collection of about 1,000 documents donated to the museum by family descendants, to $13,875 for the Carpenters Company of the City and County of Philadelphia to digitize original records from 1860 to 1960 and make the information available online to interested users all over the world.
HARC grants fund projects designed to improve the preservation and accessibility of historically significant records maintained by local governments, historical societies and academic institutions. Grants are awarded on a competitive basis. Grants of $5,001 and above must include matching funds.
Grantees were selected from 54 applications requesting a total of $351,496.
The grants were based on a competitive review of the applications by a subcommittee of the Pennsylvania State Historical Records Advisory Board (SHRAB). The HARC grants are administered by the Pennsylvania State Archives, a bureau within PHMC.
SHRAB operates under federal regulations governing the National Historical Publication and Records Commission and serves as the central advisory body for historical records planning in the state.
The Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission is the official history agency of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Learn more by visiting PHMC online or following us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or LinkedIn.
