PA Historical and Museum Commission Hosts Final Public Meeting on Washington Crossing Master Plan

Harrisburg - The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC) will host a public meeting from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 13 to discuss the master plan being developed for Washington Crossing Historic Park in Bucks County.

The meeting will be held at Washington Crossing Historic Park Visitor Center, 1112 River Road, Washington Crossing. Those attending the meeting will get a preview of the master plan to be released later this year.

Throughout the planning process, PHMC’s goal has been to blend the preservation and interpretation of the park’s historic, cultural and natural resources with recreational and educational opportunities. The plan focuses on the most appropriate use of the park’s land and how it will benefit the public.

People attending the meeting can review and discuss the plan with consultants and staff during the open house scheduled from 5:30 to 7 p.m. An official progress report will then be presented. Comments and questions will be taken after the presentation.

Washington Crossing Historic Park, one of 25 historic sites and museums along the Pennsylvania Trails of History®, is administered by PHMC in partnership with the Friends of Washington Crossing Park.

The park, established by the state in 1917, commemorates Gen. George Washington leading his troops across the icy river for a surprise attack on Hessian troops at Trenton, N.J., on Dec. 25, 1776. The victory reinvigorated American forces. Since its creation the park has grown to encompass 500 acres and more than 40 buildings.

The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission is the official history agency of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
