Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC) today announced the appointment of Janet Bowen, MLS to the position of site administrator at Brandywine Battlefield Park.
“Ms. Bowen has worked in both library and museum settings, and she is very aware of fulfilling the needs of our customers,” said Brenda Reigle, Director of PHMC’s Bureau of Historic Sites and Museums. “Her master’s degrees in public history and in library science have also well-prepared Janet for taking on the Site Administrator position at Brandywine Battlefield. We all look forward to working with her.”
Before coming to Brandywine Battlefield, Bowen served as a reference librarian at the New Cumberland Public Library, curator at the Dauphin County Historical Society and social media manager for the Pennsylvania Historical Association.
During her time at the Dauphin County Historical Society, Bowen oversaw the collections used in the exhibit honoring the 250th Anniversary of the Harris-Cameron Mansion in Harrisburg, PA. In addition, Bowen contributed research to the WITF documentary, Myra Lloyd Dock: A Beautiful Crusade.
Bowen has earned two master’s degrees, one in Library Science from Clarion University, Clarion, PA, and another in Applied History at Shippensburg University, Shippensburg, PA. Bowen has an undergraduate degree in History from Ashford University, Clinton, IA.
Brandywine Battlefield Historic Site is a National Historical Landmark is situated on 50 acres near Chadds Ford, Delaware County. It is part of the site of the Battle of Brandywine fought on September 11, 1777, during the American Revolution. The site is administered by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission with the active support of the Brandywine Battlefield Park Associates.
