July 2016 Learn at Lunchtime
Learn at Lunchtime features a variety of engaging discussions and presentations. This program, included with general admission to The State Museum, runs from 12:15 to 12:45 PM on the following Fridays:
July 1 NASA’s Journey to Mars
Join us in The State Museum’s Planetarium as we explore the observational history of Mars and mankind’s fascination with the red planet. Then join NASA’s fleet of Mars robotic explorers as they pave the way for human exploration of the solar system in the coming decades. Note: Space is limited and the show will start promptly at 12:15 PM; visitors will not be admitted once the show has started.
July 8 Art of the State
Explore the 49th annual Art of the State exhibition with Pennsylvania First Lady Frances Wolf as she and featured artist Jerome Hershey of Lancaster co-lead a casual tour sharing their insights on the show. Art of the State is recognized as the official, statewide juried competition for Pennsylvania artists. Jurors selected artwork from five categories, Craft, Painting, Photography, Sculpture and Work on Paper.
July 15 Anthropology and Archaeology
Join Dr. Kurt Carr in our Anthropology and Archaeology Gallery. Explore how archaeologists discover the past through excavations, collections and research.
July 22 Working Together for Wildlife
Join us for a special tour of our changing exhibit Working Together for Wildlife: Three Decades of Pennsylvania’s Nature in Art. The exhibit features 34 original paintings by 19 different Pennsylvania artists depicting the beauty of animals in their natural habitats. This exhibit is presented in partnership with the Pennsylvania Game Commission.
July 29 Pennsylvania Turnpike
Join Dr. Curt Miner, Senior Curator, to explore The Pennsylvania Turnpike: America’s First Superhighway. This exhibit highlights the Turnpike’s contribution to the ongoing quest to improve the state’s transportation infrastructure.
July 2016: This Month in Nature Lab
This summer, take a staycation to The State Museum where you’ll discover interactive, hands-on learning experiences guided by specialists in fields ranging from archaeology to environmental protection. Museum curators and representatives of various Pennsylvania State agencies will engage in live educational presentations as they lead visitors of all ages through the rich natural world of Pennsylvania. These presentations are included with general admission to the Museum. All programs start at 11:30 AM

StoryTime Summer Series
StoryTime at Curiosity Connection is our popular reading series for children aged 3-5 that takes place at select times during the calendar year. Held in Curiosity Connection, The State Museum’s engaging early learning space, each reading includes a related play activity with some programs continuing into a gallery. All StoryTime events begin at 10:00 AM and are included with general admission to the Museum.

The State Museum of Pennsylvania, adjacent to the State Capitol in Harrisburg, is one of 24 historic sites and museums administered by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission as part of the Pennsylvania Trails of History®. The State Museum offers expansive collections interpreting Pennsylvania’s fascinating heritage.
With exhibits examining the dawn of geologic time, the Native American experience, the colonial and revolutionary era, a pivotal Civil War battleground, and the commonwealth's vast industrial age, The State Museum demonstrates that Pennsylvania's story is America’s story.
Museum hours are Wednesday through Saturday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Sunday 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Admission is $7 for adults (ages 12-64), $6 for senior citizens (ages 65 and up), and $5 for children (ages 1-11).
