    Patrick C. Morrison Promoted to Site Administrator at Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania

    Harrisburg, PA - The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC) today announced the appointment of Patrick C. Morrison to the position of site administrator at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, Strasburg.  This is a promotion for Morrison who served as head of the museum’s education department. Morrison succeeds Jeffrey Bliemeister, who currently serves as the Executive Director of the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) Museum in Hershey.

    “Pat’s commitment to serving our visitors, his experience working with public programs and his extensive knowledge of railroad history make him the ideal choice for this position,” said Brenda Reigle, Director of PHMC’s Bureau of Historic Sites and Museums.

    Morrison will lead a staff of 25, an active corps of volunteers and a board of directors of the non-profit Friends of the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania to further advance this world-class institution.

    Patrick C. Morrison has nearly 25 years of experience in the museum field.  In college, Morrison trained to become a social studies teacher, but he found his true calling working in museums.  He has spent more than 21 years at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, where he has developed interactive tours, exhibits, workshops, community outreach, and distance-learning programs; instructed school-age children and adults; and worked with volunteers.

    Morrison earned his bachelor’s degree in social studies/secondary education from Millersville University in 1995 and a master’s degree in history, specializing in museum studies, from the University of Delaware in 1999.  Before coming to the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, Pat served as an intern for three summers in the early 1990s at the Altoona Railroaders’ Memorial Museum.

     

    Opened to the public in 1975, the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania is home to a world-class collection of more than 100 historic locomotives and railroad cars, a vast library and archives, a working restoration shop and an immersive education center.  The Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania is administered by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, with the active support of the Friends of the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania.
