ESGR Pittsburgh Bosslift and Employers Luncheon
The Pittsburgh Bosslift showcased the refueling capabilities of the 171st Air Refueling Wing of the Pennsylvania Air National Guard in coordination with the 911th Airlift Wing Air Reserve unit out of Pittsburgh.
The refueling mission gave employers firsthand experience flying in a C-17 or a KC-135T Refueler where the 171st refueled a C-17 while in flight. During the mission, employers in the KC-135T laid down in the ‘pit’ and watched the C-17 approach and hook up to the refueler. In the C-17, employers had the chance to enter the cockpit and watch as it approached the KC-135T. Both views gave employers insight into how an in-flight refueling mission is successfully accomplished.
The Bosslift also gave Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) the chance to advise employers of their responsibilities as well as inform the employers of the rights of their employees according to the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA). The brief and refueling mission gave employers a new appreciation for the service members and the duties they perform when they are not at their civilian jobs.
The ESGR Employers Luncheon is one of the few ESGR events service members can attend with their employer. Several employers were recognized with a State Level Award for going above and beyond in supporting the service members they employ. They also had a chance to have lunch and a briefing with Pennsylvania’s Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. John R. Pippy. The luncheon culminated with PA and ESGR honoring 21 of the 56 nominated employers with the National Secretary of Defense Freedom Award.
