Below are common questions about the function, design, and purpose of the CAID.

This dashboard is designed to provide transparency to the public, and to provide the communities PSP serves an ownership stake in their quality of life by demonstrating significant police-related incident trends and some of the mitigation efforts taken to impact those trajectories. Communities would have this information so that they may propose additional strategies, beyond PSP’s law enforcement action plans, to their elected representatives which may help reverse police-related incident trends.

No sensitive information is being shared.

  • Due to the large volume of data, the date range must be limited to three years.
  • Visible data is updated quarterly. Data goes back to January 1 of the calendar year three years back from the current year.
  • The latest quarter’s data is added on the 15th of the month following the end of each quarter. For example, April 15 releases quarter 1 data from Jan-March.

Commercial vehicles are counted in the numbers on the non-commercial dashboard. The Commercial Vehicle dashboard provides a more detailed view of commercial vehicle-related data.

First, select any filters for the data that you wish to see. Then, hover over the map, and click the "more options" icon with 3 dots that appears. Select Export Data to create an Excel sheet containing detailed information for all incidents. Note that because there are coordinates with more than one incident, the total number of rows in the spreadsheet is not the same as the total number of incidents. In order to see the total number of incidents, use the Sum function for the column labeled "Incident Count."

The Firearms dashboard numbers include victims of suicide involving a firearm. Because suicide is not considered a criminal offense, these incidents are counted only on the Firearms dashboard, and nowhere else in the Crime data. This causes the total number of investigations used in the pie chart graphic to be larger than the total for the crime overview page. Suicides are also included in the total number of individuals killed by a firearm.

No. The totals for investigations where a firearm is involved, criminal arrests where a firearm was involved, number of individuals killed by a firearm, and number of guns seized, are static statewide figures representing all data available. The data slicers on the Firearms page can be used to filter the pie chart, bar graph depicting types of firearm-related crimes, age range graph, and map.
