    State Museum of Pennsylvania Offers Artist Conversations for Harrisburg’s Gallery Walk

    ​Harrisburg, PA – To complement the 50th Anniversary of Art of the State, The State Museum of Pennsylvania will host its third and final installment of its “Artist Conversations” series on Sunday, September 10 at 2:00 PM. This special tour will be held in conjunction with Harrisburg’s annual Gallery Walk.   

     Artist Marie Manski and Collections Advancement Project Curator Amy Hammond will co-lead a casual tour sharing their insights on the show.  Ms. Manski won both first prize for sculpture and The State Museum Purchase Award for her work titled Purgatory.

     Gallery Walk programs, including The State Museum’s “Artist Conversations,” are free to the public. The State Museum of Pennsylvania will extend its hours for Gallery Walk. Hours for September 10 are 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Museum docents will be in the gallery throughout the day.

    Gallery Walk, organized by the Art Association of Harrisburg to highlight the city’s many artistic venues, also marks the closing of Art of the State, the official, statewide juried competition for Pennsylvania artists. This year’s show features 130 pieces by 119 artists from 28 counties. 

     Art of the State is co-presented by The State Museum and Jump Street. WITF Public Media and Higher Information Group are exhibit sponsors.

     Jump Street, a non-profit arts organization, has been serving the Capital Region for over 38 years, providing arts programs for students and adults; arts grants to artists and organizations throughout the state of Pennsylvania; arts-based community service programs; and technical assistance to artists and organizations. 

    The State Museum of Pennsylvania, adjacent to the state Capitol in Harrisburg, is one of 24 historic sites and museums administered by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission as part of the Pennsylvania Trails of History. The State Museum offers expansive collections interpreting Pennsylvania’s fascinating heritage. With exhibits examining the dawn of geologic time, the Native American experience, the colonial and revolutionary eras, a pivotal Civil War battleground, and the commonwealth's vast industrial age, The State Museum demonstrates that Pennsylvania's story is America’s story.
