Harrisburg, PA - In recognition of Veterans Day, the Pennsylvania Department of Banking and Securities, along with the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs and AARP Pennsylvania announces a free conference to educate veterans, service members and their families on how to avoid investment fraud and exploitation.
The “$camJam!” conference will take place on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at the Penn Harris Hotel, 1150 Camp Hill Bypass, Camp Hill, Pa. from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Registration is required.
The event will feature:
- Registration, complimentary hot breakfast and consumer information fair beginning at 8:00 AM
- Panel of Experts on Investment Fraud and Scam prevention and Investment Fraud BINGO from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM
Veterans, service members and their families are targets of scammers due to a presumption of steady income and benefits, frequent moves and deployments, and tight-knit culture that criminals can exploit to gain unwarranted trust.
According to a 2021 AARP survey, service members and veterans are 40 percent more likely to lose money to scams and fraud than the civilian population. These individuals reported losing more than $414 million in 2022, up from $140 million in 2021, according to a 2022 Federal Trade Commission report.\
For more information about the conference, call 717-214-5565 or email informed@pa.gov. Members of the public with questions or complaints about financial products and services can call 1-800-PA-BANKS (or 1-800-600-0007) or by following the Department of Banking and Securities on Facebook or Twitter or by subscribing to the department newsletter.
