Melissa Lovett serves as Commission Counsel for the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission where she provides legal advice to hearing examiners, chief counsel, and the executive director.
Melissa joined the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission after serving as Assistant Director Labor Counsel for the County of Delaware. In that role, she led complex workplace investigations related to harassment, discrimination, and retaliation for a workforce of over 3,000 employees. She also presided over high-level grievance hearings involving bargaining and non-bargaining employees. Before being promoted to assistant director, Melissa served as Assistant County Solicitor for the County of Delaware and successfully presented cases before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and Pennsylvania Labor Relations Board. As Assistant County Solicitor, she also advised department directors, managers, and elected officials on matters related to County policy and law.
Prior to the County of Delaware, Melissa served as an Associate Attorney at Spear Wilderman, a Philadelphia union-side labor law firm, where she represented unionized employees in child support, custody, divorce, and estate matters.
Melissa began her legal career as a judicial law clerk at the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas where she drafted numerous judicial opinions that were affirmed on appeal by the Pennsylvania Superior Court and published in the Montgomery County Bar Reporter.
Melissa graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Swarthmore College and earned her Juris Doctor from Tulane University Law School in New Orleans.
