HARRISBURG, Pa (February 28) -- On Monday, March 14 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission in partnership with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection will host a Webinar Hearing to gather public input on Atlantic Striped Bass Draft Amendment 7.
This hearing is among several informational sessions being held by coastal state members of the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC), of which Pennsylvania is member. During spring, Striped Bass annually migrate from the Atlantic Ocean into the Delaware Estuary and Delaware River to spawn. This Striped Bass fishery is co-managed by Pennsylvania and New Jersey and provides seasonal recreational fishing opportunities for anglers in both states.
The Draft Amendment proposes options to address the following issues related to the Atlantic Striped Bass population: management triggers, recreational release mortality, stock rebuilding plan, and conservation equivalency. These issues were identified during the public scoping process for Amendment 7 as critically important to help rebuild the stock and update the management program.
A full description of the Draft Amendment and instructions on how to register and participate in the Webinar hearing are available through the ASMFC, and can be found here.
