The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission Division of Aquatic Species Restoration provides leadership, coordination, technical guidance, and resources to advance a statewide program to restore, recover, and propagate diadromous fishes, freshwater mussels, non-game fish, amphibians, reptiles, and other aquatic organisms, with a focus on threatened and endangered species and Species of Greatest Conservation Need.
The Division is responsible for leading American Shad restoration efforts, implementing Species Action Plans, including species population recovery (augmentation and reintroduction) via species propagation, and assisting with recovery efforts for species under Commission jurisdiction in coordination with other Bureau of Fisheries’ divisions and the Bureau of Hatcheries. The Division consists of the Union City Species Recovery Unit which operates out of the PFBC’s Union City Aquatic Conservation Center located in Erie County and the Huntsdale Species Recovery Unit which operates out of the Huntsdale Aquatic Conservation Center located in Cumberland County.
