    Mentored Youth Catfish Fishing Opportunities Offered this Summer in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia Areas

    ​HARRISBURG, Pa. (June 28) - The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) is offering two Mentored Youth Catfish Fishing Opportunities this summer near Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.

    The first opportunity will be on July 20 and 21 on the Boathouse Pond portion of North Park Lake, Allegheny County. Boat House Pond is located at 10301 Pearce Mill Road, Allison Park, PA 15101. This is a cooperative effort involving Allegheny County Parks.

    The second opportunity will be on August 3 and 4 at Children's Pond in Nockamixon State Park, Bucks County. Nockamixon State Park is located at 1542 Mountain View Drive, Quakertown, PA 18951. This is a cooperative effort involving the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), Bureau of State Parks.

    The hours for both Mentored Youth Catfish opportunities are Noon to 11:00 p.m. Saturday and on Sunday from dawn to 11:00 p.m. PFBC staff will be on hand during portions of both days to help participants.

    Demonstrations will also take place at each location from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. during Saturday's Mentored Youth opportunity. The demonstrations will include information on catfish biology, angling techniques, and cleaning and cooking fish.

    To participate in Mentored Youth Catfish Fishing Days, anglers ages 15 and under must obtain either a FREE Mentored Youth Fishing Permit or Voluntary Youth Fishing License ($2.90) from the PFBC and be accompanied by an adult licensed angler (16 years or older). Permits and licenses are available at www.GoneFishingPA.com. and at more than 700 issuing agents.

    Youth may harvest two catfish per day, but mentors must practice catch and release.

    Catfish will be stocked at both locations between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. on each Saturday of the opportunity.  The stocked catfish will range in size from 12 to 24 inches.
