HARRISBURG, Pa. (July 14) — Continuing the year-long celebration in honor of its 150th Anniversary, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) is hosting a special dedication ceremony and Open House on July 23 at the agency’s new Centre Region Office, located at 595 E Rolling Ridge Drive in Bellefonte, PA 16823 (the former Woodcraft Factory Outlet).
The dedication event begins at 11:30 a.m., followed by the Open House and public activities from 1-3 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Open House activities include the following:
- PFBC equipment including a stocking truck and law enforcement vehicles
- Live amphibians, reptiles, and fish
- History of Fisherman’s Paradise including a collection of historical artifacts
- Fish and invertebrates found in Spring Creek
- Fly casting with Joe Humphreys
- Spin casting
In addition, there will be an opportunity to tour the hatchery and visitor center, and members of the Spring Creek Chapter of Trout Unlimited will be on hand to provide informal fly-fishing instruction. Bellefonte State Fish Hatchery will provide refreshments.
Registration is required to attend the open house. Space is limited and registration will close on July 21.
The new PFBC history book – “To Protect, Conserve and Enhance: The History of the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission” – will also be available for purchase. This 400-page history book not only chronicles PFBC’s path and accomplishments, it also serves as a history of the emergence of Pennsylvania fishing and boating as we know it today.
Written by esteemed Pennsylvania historian Kenneth C. Wolensky, Ed.D., this 6-inch by 9-inch book is rich with documented history and a visual archive that equates to approximately half of the book’s content. The inclusion of vintage photographs and stunning artwork from PFBC’s archives provides a wonderfully entertaining complement to the text.
The book can also be purchased online through the Outdoor Shop.
