Originally constructed in 1876, the Corry State Fish Hatchery is situated on approximately 10 developed acres (227 total acres divided among the main hatchery, the Annex and Foster Properties) of land owned by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and managed by the Fish and Boat Commission.

The facility consists of earthen ponds, exterior linear concrete raceways, a hatchery building that contains concrete interior raceways and egg incubator jars.

Water is supplied to the facility from springs, production wells, and pumped recirculation.

Celebrating 150 Years of the Corry State Fish Hatchery

In fall of 2026, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission is excited to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Corry State Fish Hatchery (SFH) in Erie County.

Originally known as the “Western State Fish Hatchery,” the later renamed Corry SFH opened in 1876 after Governor John Hartranft and the General Assembly appropriated $2,000 for its purchase from a local landowner. While a small, private Brook Trout hatchery had already been established on the property by its previous owner, an additional $3,000 was immediately invested by the Commonwealth for upgrades including a new hatch house.

The facility has since become the PFBC’s longest continuously operating facility within the SFH system. Corry SFH exclusively raises coldwater species and accounts for approximately 10% of the PFBC’s total adult stocked trout production statewide. In 2026, eight full-time employees and one seasonal employee work to annually produce 330,000 Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout and golden Rainbow Trout, which are stocked into public waterways.
