PHRC releases statement following fire at Harrisburg farmers' market

Harrisburg, PA- The Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission (PHRC) wants to express its support to the business owners and vendors who are reeling from Monday's devastating fire at the Broad Street Market in Harrisburg.

"The damage at the Broad Street Market is a major setback for not only the vendors who sell product, but also the community members that use the market as a gathering place to meet up with friends and family," said PHRC Executive Director Chad Dion Lassiter. "The PHRC is pleased to hear that the city and Governor Shapiro are committed to rebuilding the damaged buildings."

The Broad Street Market is one of the oldest continuously operating farmers markets in the country. It first opened in 1860. Monday's fire was caused by an electrical malfunction in a ceiling fan fixture. No one was injured.
