PHRC congratulates newly elected House Speaker Joanna McClinton
McClinton is the first woman Speaker of the House in Pennsylvania
Harrisburg, PA- The Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission (PHRC) sends its congratulations to state Representative Joanna McClinton (D-Philadelphia) on her election as Pennsylvania's first woman and first Black woman Speaker of the Pennsylvania House.
"Today is a monumental and historic day as we see another glass ceiling shatter," said Chad Dion Lassiter, PHRC Executive Director. "State Representative Joanna McClinton is a trailblazer who will advocate and lead Pennsylvania as the Commonwealth's House Speaker. Representation and diversity matter, today, all girls and women in Pennsylvania, and especially girls and women of color, now have someone they can look to and say, 'If she can do it, so can I.' What a wonderful way to end Black History Month and begin Women's History Month."
The PHRC is the state's leading civil rights enforcement agency. Its mission is to promote equal opportunity for all and enforce Pennsylvania's civil rights laws that protect people from unlawful discrimination. PHRC urges anyone who has experienced acts of discrimination or hate to file a complaint with the PHRC by calling 717-787-4410. Information and resources are also available at www.PHRC.pa.gov.
