Harrisburg, PA —The Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission (PHRC) announced Governor Josh Shapiro has appointed Philadelphia Councilmember Curtis Jones Jr. as the interim chair. Jones has served on the Commission since 2017.
“I would like to thank Governor Shapiro for the opportunity to serve as the interim chair of the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission,” said PHRC Chair Curtis Jones, Jr.“The Commission’s work is more important than ever. As interim chair, I plan to work alongside PHRC staff to strengthen civil rights protections across the Commonwealth and to ensure every Pennsylvanian has the right to live, work, play, and learn free from discrimination.”

Jones brings decades of experience in public service, community-based economic development, and advocacy for education, public safety, and environmental protection. Under his leadership on the Philadelphia city council, Jones championed initiatives addressing public safety, housing stability, youth opportunity, environmental preservation, and equitable economic development. He is also recognized for his leadership in enabling minority-, women-, and disabled-owned business enterprises to access significant municipal contracting opportunities.
