At its public Board meeting on October 26th, the SBHE unanimously adopted three recommendations to align Pennsylvania policy and resources to streamline affordable pathways to high-quality, in-demand college credentials for high school students and adults:
- Establish an Adult Reconnect Program to create a streamlined pathway to a postsecondary credential for adults who started but did not finish college.
- Expand Dual Credit to increase the number of high school students obtaining college credit, shorten time to credential, and improve affordability.
- Support Admissions Redesign to make it easier to apply to college.
These recommendations emerged after careful consideration of a variety of possible policy options, and were selected based on their proven track record of improving college enrollment, attainment, and affordability.
As the Shapiro administration and the General Assembly consider their priorities for the coming budget year, the SBHE stands ready to provide additional guidance and input regarding how best to design and implement its recommendations.
