Harrisburg, PA – Today, Governor Josh Shapiro announced the Shapiro Administration has secured a $4.4 million investment from Superior Huntingdon Composites, LLC to expand its fiberglass product manufacturing operations in Huntingdon County. The Commonwealth is investing more than $1.8 million in the project, which will create 26 new jobs over the next three years and retain 74 existing, full-time positions.
Superior Huntingdon Composites plans to reactivate a third production line — idled since 2012 ― at its facility at 1200 Susquehanna Avenue in Huntingdon. The project is a major win for the local community that will bring new jobs, renewed production capacity, and long-term growth to the company’s Huntingdon Borough facility.
“Superior Huntingdon is a company with deep roots, a strong workforce, and a clear commitment to the future and I’m glad they’ve chosen Pennsylvania once again,” said Governor Shapiro. “Through our Economic Development Strategy, my Administration is continuing to make targeted investments, cut permitting wait times, support business growth, and create the conditions for companies to succeed, because when Pennsylvania manufacturers like Superior Huntingdon grow, our workers, communities, and the entire Commonwealth grow with them.”
The Governor’s 10-year Economic Development Strategy is a targeted plan designed to help Pennsylvania win and become a national leader in economic development, innovation, and job creation. Manufacturing is one of the key industries outlined in the strategy that will help Pennsylvania build on its competitive advantages and create real opportunity for Pennsylvanians.
“Pennsylvania’s manufacturing strength is one of our competitive advantages, which is why we’re making targeted investments in companies like Superior Huntingdon Composites,” said DCED Secretary Rick Siger. “Investing in manufacturers in both urban and rural areas helps companies thrive, creates good-paying jobs for Pennsylvanians, and strengthens our economy. Supporting growing manufacturing companies also boosts our supply chains and builds on Pennsylvania’s industrial foundation and future success.”
Coordinated by Governor Shapiro’s BusinessPA team, Superior Huntingdon Composites received a funding proposal from the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) for a $1,687,757 Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority (PIDA) loan and $200,000 Pennsylvania First grant.
“For over five decades, Superior Huntingdon Composites has been fiberizing glass in our Huntingdon facility,” said Jason Takac, President and CEO, Superior Huntingdon Composites. “These investments will help us grow our Pennsylvania manufacturing platform, invest in advanced production capabilities, and reinforce the domestic supply chain to meet our customers’ needs with speed and reliability. We are grateful to the Shapiro Administration and the DCED for making these investments possible. These investments help support our continued commitment to the composites industry, Huntingdon County, and our employees.”
Superior Huntingdon Composites is a key domestic producer of fiberglass continuous filament mat and veil products used in composites manufacturing in a wide range of industries such as defense, power and energy, building materials, transportation, infrastructure and marine.
