The Office of External Affairs manages the Governor's approximately 6,000 appointments to boards and commissions across the Commonwealth.
There are generally two types of appointments—some boards are direct appointments by the Governor, and some are made with the advice and consent of the Senate of Pennsylvania.
Direct Appointments
Direct appointments include most advisory boards, among others, and are made simply by an appointment letter from the Governor.
Senate-confirmable Appointments
Senate-confirmable appointments include professional licensure boards, State System of Higher Education councils of trustees, state-related universities councils of trustees, and state hospitals and centers boards of trustees, among others.
