The investment will build a new 96,500-square-foot facility – creating the world’s largest integrated specialty gases facility right here in Pennsylvania.
Under Governor Shapiro’s leadership, Pennsylvania is open for business and his Administration is focused on securing transformational economic development investments. The electronics subsidiary of German multinational health care company Merck KGaA said Wednesday it will spend $300 million to expand its specialty gas production facility in eastern Pennsylvania in a step that state officials hope will help boost the area’s appeal to the fast-growing semiconductor industry.

“We appreciate the efforts on the part of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to recognize the value of our growth plans and work with us to make this expansion possible.” Jeff White, president of EMD Electronics, said in a news release.
The project was coordinated by the Governor’s Action Team, a group of economic development professionals who report directly to the governor and work with businesses that are considering locating or expanding in Pennsylvania.
This expansion is part of the company’s growth program, which aims to invest more than $ 3.5 billion in innovation and capacity expansion projects by 2025.

WNEP: State invests $1.1 million in electronics plant near Hometown
Gov. Josh Shapiro expects a project at EMD Electronics in Rush Township to bring more than 100 jobs to the Hometown area.
