Participation

The GeoBoard is composed of 28 member organizations, but it needs the help of others who can volunteer their time and expertise to help us get work done. Our membership has organized itself into a Leadership Team and three Task Forces (Data, Governance, and Service Delivery), which are organized into working groups (a.k.a. subcommittees). Most volunteers are experts who contribute at the data task force working group level and attend GeoBoard meetings.

Data Task Force

The mission of the Data Task Force is to identify opportunities and provide recommendations regarding how to build and sustainably maintain a set of authoritative, accessible, current, complete, correct, and consistent basemap layers to support decision-making. The Data Task Force engages and convenes stakeholders to share information and find solutions to vexing problems involving data and accuracy standards, spatial reference systems, data stewardship, data sharing, efficient and effective funding solutions, collaborations and partnerships, metadata, and data upkeep and maintenance.

Get involved with a Data Task Force Working Group:

  • Geodetic
  • 3D Elevation

  • Civic Boundaries
  • Parcels and Land Records
  • Addresses and Street Centerlines

Governance Task Force

The mission of the Governance Task Force is to document and monitor the governance and operations of the GeoBoard, ensure alignment with legislative requirements, and advise and provide direction to the board.

Governance Task Force Subcommittees:

  • Policies and Procedures
  • Emerging Technologies (ad hoc)

Service Delivery Task Force

The mission of the Service Delivery Task Force is to explore and evaluate how geospatial services are delivered across the commonwealth and the nation, and to prepare reports, positions, and recommendations for improved service delivery, for the GeoBoard to consider. Ideally, attention will be paid to finding sustainable solutions, optimizing investments, and fostering better stewardship. The Service Delivery Task Force will focus on providing information for improving geospatial service delivery across all facets of government and citizenry.

Geoboard Meetings

The GeoBoard meets quarterly. Quarterly meetings are open, available for anyone to join, and conducted using a hybrid format (in-person AND remote). The upcoming meeting agenda and supporting materials are posted on the GeoBoard home page. Another page includes lists of past meeting agendas, materials, and minutes.

The in-person meeting experience is held at:

Bureau of Geological Survey
3240 Schoolhouse Road
Middletown, PA, 17057

The remote meeting experience is supported by Microsoft Teams. A listen-in phone number is included on each meeting agenda.

New Business is brought to the GeoBoard internally, via its committee structure, and both internally and externally, via the "New Business" section of each quarterly meeting.
