May 2026 - Recognized Leadership
The 2026 Government AI Landscape Analysis by Code for America places Pennsylvania among the top states in advancing from foundational AI readiness and pilots to implementing AI to deliver impact and value.
April 2026 - Employee Adoption Grows
Over 3,000 Commonwealth employees have completed training on safe and responsible AI use in the public sector as a requirement to begin using generative AI tools.
January 2026 – Recruiting Talent with AI
Commonwealth recruiters attend workshops with LinkedIn, Glassdoor, and Indeed focused on using AI to draft job postings.
February 2026 – AI Literacy and Safety
Governor Shapiro unveils a new AI literacy toolkit to help protect to children and vulnerable populations and an AI Enforcement Task Force focused on protecting Pennsylvanians from AI scams and risky chatbots.
March 2026 – AI Guidance for Commonwealth Job Seekers
Commonwealth issues guidance on acceptable AI use during hiring process to hiring managers and job seekers interested in state employment.
May 2026 - Protecting Consumers
PA Department of State files lawsuit against Character.AI for misrepresenting its AI companion bots as licensed medical professionals.

February 2025 – GenAI for Federal Job Matching
HR staff uses generative AI in crossmatch analysis between high-priority state jobs and comparable federal positions to expedite hiring for former federal employees
June 2025 – Historic Investment in AI Infrastructure
Governor Shapiro announces Amazon will invest over $20 billion to build AI infrastructure in Pennsylvania, creating over 1,200 new jobs.
July 2025 – Top in the Nation for AI Readiness
Pennsylvania ranked as one of top three states in the nation for AI readiness by Code for America.
October 2025 – AI Training
“AI @ Work” webinar for Commonwealth employees on incorporating artificial intelligence into daily work effectively, safely, and securely.
October 2025 – Employee Engagement Milestone
Over 5,000 Commonwealth employees have participated in responsible AI training from InnovateUS.
October + November 2025 – University Collaboration at AI Summits
Shapiro Administration co-hosts Unlocking AI for Public Good summits and announces new agreements with Univ. of Pennsylvania and Carnegie Mellon University to expand collaboration on AI strategy and implementation.

Shapiro Administration and OpenAI launch a first-of-its-kind generative AI pilot with Commonwealth employees.

September 2023 - AI Governance Begins
Governor Shapiro issues executive order creating the Generative AI Governing Board and launches a collaboration with Carnegie Mellon University (CMU).
