HARRISBURG – Today, Governor Josh Shapiro and Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis joined college students participating in summer internships at Commonwealth agencies for a special gathering and question-and-answer session. The event was held at Harrisburg University and interns across the state participated remotely via live stream.

Earlier in the day, interns met at the State Capitol for a photo opportunity with Governor Shapiro to commemorate their internships.

"The Lieutenant Governor and I were honored to spend time today with these bright young people and witness their incredible energy and engagement," said Governor Shapiro. "We wanted to do something special to make their internship a memorable experience, and it was equally rewarding for us."

"Public service is a tremendous opportunity to make a difference while making a living," said Lt. Gov. Davis. "The students of today are the workforce and leaders of tomorrow, and we hope that many of these students will come back to pursue their careers with the Commonwealth when they graduate."

"We strive to offer high quality internship programs that provide students with a rewarding opportunity to gain experience in their field of study and to explore work in a safe, supportive, and professional learning environment," said Secretary of Administration Neil Weaver, whose office is responsible for recruitment and hiring. "We are focused on creating new opportunities for high school and college students to gain exposure to public service and prepare to join the workforce."

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania was ranked among the top employers in the nation by recent college graduates in a new survey conducted by Forbes Magazine and Statista. The Commonwealth was one of only six states included in the list of best employers for new graduates.

The Office of Administration is working to expand internship opportunities across state agencies for high school and college students. Additionally, OA has partnered with NuPaths to offer information technology internships and apprenticeships to high school graduates, veterans, and those in career-transition. The Commonwealth recently hired two NuPaths interns to support digital and communications services, and six IT apprentices have started technical support training.
