Biglerville – On Friday, Oct. 16, PLCB Director of Regulatory Affairs Andy Stuffick (front left) and Executive Director Rodrigo Diaz (second from left) presented a Reducing Underage and Dangerous Drinking grant for $49,960 to The Center for Youth & Community Development, Adams County, during the group’s Collaborating for Youth (CFY) Family Friday event in Oakside Community Park, Biglerville. Receiving the grant were, from left: CFY Executive Director Andrea Dolges, Adams County commissioners Mark Clowney and Jim Martin, and CFY Youth Coalition Director Aaron Zipp. Looking on are Arturo Hernandez, Vicente Cernas, Yeimi Zetina, Alli Thompson, Liliana Hernandez, and Jennifer Cortez.
CFY’s grant will fund social media campaigns, flyers, streaming ads in English and Spanish, family and public events, podcasts and high-traffic billboards, all in a multi-layered approach to address both responsible adult consumption of beverage alcohol and to eliminate underage drinking. They will also employ the popular Project Sticker Shock and Parents Who Host Lose the Most public health campaigns to educate adults about the dangers of providing alcohol to minors.
CFY has received alcohol education grants from the PLCB a number of times, dating back almost 15 years.
In September, the PLCB announced the distribution of more than $3.6 million in RUDD grants to communities across the commonwealth to help prevent underage and dangerous drinking, support local prevention efforts, and build healthier, safer communities. These grants are one of the many ways the PLCB helps strengthen Pennsylvania beyond its role as a retailer. By investing in prevention, education, and community partnerships, the agency works to ensure the benefits of beverage alcohol sales are returned to the people and communities it serves.
This year, of 133 grant applications received, 90 organizations from 46 counties across Pennsylvania were awarded a total of $3,621,313 in reimbursement-based grants. The maximum award for each two-year grant is $50,000.
The PLCB has awarded more than $28 million in RUDD grants since inception of the program in 1999.
The PLCB works to educate the public about the risks of underage and dangerous drinking through a variety of other avenues throughout the year, by:
- Providing millions of dollars in alcohol education grants to schools, law enforcement, and community organizations
- Offering Responsible Alcohol Management Program (RAMP) training and resources to licensees to promote responsible alcohol service
- Hosting an annual alcohol education conference for partners in prevention
- Providing training and technical assistance to law enforcement and other organizations working to address the issues related to irresponsible consumption
- Supporting collegiate student leadership and youth prevention initiatives
- Supplying prevention materials for parents, educators, and community groups
- Working closely with local partners to address dangerous and underage drinking
Over nine decades, the PLCB has evolved from a system created to restrict access to alcohol into an organization centered on connection, service, and public good. As a statewide retailer and regulator, the PLCB works to support economic growth and reinvest in programs that keep people safe and benefit Pennsylvania’s communities.
The PLCB regulates the distribution of beverage alcohol in Pennsylvania, operates Fine Wine & Good Spirits stores statewide, and licenses more than 20,000 alcohol producers, retailers, and handlers. The PLCB also works to reduce and prevent dangerous and underage drinking through partnerships with schools, community groups, and licensees. For more information about the PLCB, visit pa.gov/lcb.
