Jim Brewster

Jim Brewster, a resident of McKeesport, Allegheny County, was nominated to the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board by Governor Josh Shapiro on March 24, 2025, and was unanimously confirmed to a four-year term by the state Senate on June 11, 2025.

Jim served for 14 years as a state senator representing 55 communities in Pennsylvania’s 45th District (Allegheny and Westmoreland counties). During his terms, he served as chairman of the Law & Justice, Housing & Urban Affairs and Game & Fisheries committees; vice chairman of the Legislative Budget & Finance Committee; and member of the Appropriations, Banking & Insurance, Education, Local Government and Transportation committees. Before becoming a state senator, Jim fulfilled a lifelong dream by serving for seven years as mayor of McKeesport. Prior to entering public service, he was an executive at Mellon Bank, one of the largest financial institutions in the country at the time.

A graduate of California University of Pennsylvania, Jim served as chairman, trustee, officer or member of the boards of the Pennsylvania League of Cities and Municipalities, Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Association, Penn State Greater Allegheny, Pittsburgh Regional Transit, McKeesport Housing Authority, Allegheny League of Municipalities, Allegheny County Air Quality Control, Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum Trust and many other community, civic and professional organizations.

Jim was named “Champion of Public Education” by the Pennsylvania School Boards Association in 2025 and the Mayor of the Year in 2010 by the Pennsylvania Mayor’s Association. He also received the NAACP President’s Award. A community center in McKeesport bears his name – the Senator James R. Brewster Community Center.

Jim and his wife, Linda, have been married for 55 years and have three daughters. He is the proud grandfather of seven.
