PLCB Names Top Bidders in 16th Restaurant License Auction

Harrisburg – Following validation of 36 bids received by the Oct.5 deadline for the 16th restaurant license auction authorized by Act 39 of 2016, the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB) has announced highest bids and bidders on the PLCB restaurant license auction web page.

Top bids range from $30,000 for a license in Minersville, Schuylkill County to $350,000 for a license in Easton, Northampton County. The average top bid in the auction was $114,497.

The number of validated bids received for each of the 20 licenses receiving bids ranged from one to five. Four licenses – in Jefferson, Luzerne, Snyder and Wayne counties – received no valid bids.

Top bidders have 30 days from the date of each Notice of Selection to remit full bid payment to the PLCB. If bid payment is not received within 30 days of auction award, the second-highest bidder will have the opportunity to remit its full bid payment.

Each auction winner has six months from the issuance of the Notice of Selection to file a license application with the PLCB.

This auction included one license in each of the following 20 counties: Adams, Berks, Bucks, Cambria, Carbon, Crawford, Delaware, Greene, Jefferson, Lancaster, Lehigh, Luzerne, Lycoming, Monroe, Montgomery, Northampton, Schuylkill, Snyder, Washington, and Wayne.

Unlike the excess license auction conducted earlier this year, licenses available in this auction cannot be transferred across county lines. They may only be transferred to another municipality within the same county, consistent with applicable laws and regulations.

The PLCB regulates the distribution of beverage alcohol in Pennsylvania, operates Fine Wine & Good Spirits stores statewide, and licenses more than 20,000 alcohol producers, retailers, and handlers. The PLCB also works to reduce and prevent dangerous and underage drinking through partnerships with schools, community groups, and licensees. For more information about the PLCB, visit pa.gov/lcb.
